You can use several sites to post podcasts - Scott selected Podbean because you can post up to 100 meg of space. More storage is available for a monthly fee. You can delete content to stay below the storage limits.
Podbean uses WordPress templates for user sites but limited templates are available.
Students can subscribe to podcast and it will automatically download via iTunes.
Room 312 podcast - posted as a blog - used to post lessons, post book reviews/reports, interactive extra credit. Students can comment on posts on the blog. Podcasts are kept short 2-6 minutes. Scott shared an interactive extra credit podcast.
Garageband and Audacity can be used to create a podcast.
Creating PodBean site - create username and password and register on the site.
Implementation idea - Fireside book chats - students read novel and are interviewed to create the podcast. Predetermined list of questions. Students create and type description for their podcast posting.
Publishing a podcast on the PodBean site - You will need to enter tags (keywords for the podcast), title and a description of the podcast.
Use only student first name on podcast no last names.
Student comments are reviewed before being posted on Podbean.
Suggestions from the audience - Students access the Fireside chats in class to use in future reading selections.
How has this activity enhanced instruction in Scott's class? Instruction has become interactive and the Fireside Chats give students a voice.
